Looking back at PHS in 1976
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the graduation of the Plymouth High School Class of 1976. Here is a look back at its senior year!
Homecoming
Homecoming 1975 featured:
- Dress-up days through the week, including Hat Day, Clash Day, Backwards Day, and Number Day
- Hall decorating competition Wednesday evening
- Downtown window decorating competition
- Pep rally with skits and Homecoming Court in the Auditorium on Friday
- Parade featuring student-built floats Friday from PHS down Eastern Avenue to Lutheran School
- A 34-16 football victory over Algoma on Friday
- Dance on Friday night after the game
Sports
Interscholastic sports for boys included:
- Baseball
- Basketball
- Cross Country
- Football
- Golf – conference champion
- Swimming
- Tennis
- Track & Field
- Wrestling
Interscholastic sports for girls included:
- Basketball
- Girls Tennis
- Track & Field
- Volleyball
Girls also could be part of the Girls Athletic Association, which offered gymnastics, volleyball, bowling, basketball, and baseball, among other activities.
The Arts
Performing opportunities included:
- Panther Band, Concert Band,Jazz Band, Marching Band
- Boys’ Chorus,Glee Club,Key Club, Mixed Chorus,Swing Choir
- One-act play “Catherine Howard” – which went to State
- All-school play “I Remember Mama” in December
- Musical “Funny Girl” in March
Extracurriculars

Other highlights from the year:
- PHS hosted three foreign exchange students, from Austria, Chile, and Tasmania
- Mr. & Miss Basketball Dance in February
- J.H. Williams Track Meet and Court of Honor in April
- Marching Band performed at Walt Disney World in May
