Looking back at PHS in 2011-12

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the graduation of the Plymouth High School Class of 2012. Here is a look back at their senior year!

Homecoming

Homecoming Week 2011 had a jungle theme and featured:

  • Hall decorating on Sunday
  • Boys’ volleyball tournament and girls’ powder puff football games on Sunday
  • Dress-up days including camouflage and animal prints throughout the week
  • Tug-of-war competition throughout the week
  • Alumni Hall of Fame induction, Homecoming Court presentation, and pep rally on Friday
  • Parade through downtown on Friday
  • Football victory over Kiel on Friday evening
  • Homecoming Dance on Saturday

The arts

Performing opportunities included:

  • Fall play “The Frankensteins Are Back in Town”
  • One act “Arabian Nights”
  • Cabaret concert in February
  • Spring musical “Oklahoma”
  • Sole & Ensemble music festivals
  • Talent Show in May
  • Amph-Rats drama class
  • Jolly Pranksters comedy team
  • Jazz Band 1, Jazz Band 2, German Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble
  • Choristers I, Choristers Choir II, Swing Choir, Mixed Choir, Concert Choir

Sports

Conference champions were:

  • Boys Basketball (also regional champion)
  • Girls Cross Country (also sectional champion an 9th at State)
  • Boys Soccer
  • Girls Swim & Dive (also sectional champion and 4th at State)
  • Boys Track & Field (also 2nd at State)

  • Band performed at Walt Disney World in Florida.
  • Students traveled to Costa Rica during the summer.
  • PHS hosted nine foreign-exchange students during the school year.
  • Teachers and students from Kurt Schumacher Schule in Germany came for a week in October.
  • A contingent from Colombia stayed for a week in January.

Other highlights

  • Construction of the LTC-Plymouth Science & Technology Center was completed.
  • PHS began evaluating student soft skills.
  • Two Student Council blood drives collected 156 pints of blood, a penny war raised $884 for Project Angel Hugs, a winter formal raised $2,661 for the MS Foundation, and a Pi Day celebration raised $2,000 for E.R.A.S.E. and the Plymouth Food Pantry.
