Suicide Prevention

Each person in the world is carrying struggles, challenges, fears, traumas, abuse, losses and other weights and burdens that we are not aware of and cannot see.

The Employee Assistance Program and Mental Health America Sheboygan County are great resources in times of need, and we soon will have another NEW statewide lifeline available to us.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has created a Suicide & Crisis Hotline that will be available in July 2022! (The National Suicide Prevention Line - 1-800-273-8255 - should be used until the July 16 Go Live date.)

As of July 16, 2022, anyone in mental health distress can call 988, send a text to 988, or use the online chat function on suicidepreventionlifeline.org to connect with a counselor through what will be known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Wisconsinites who use 988 will connect with an in-state service that we fund known as the Wisconsin Lifeline.

Ready, Set, Play on National Employee Health and Fitness Day!

Do you remember when you couldn’t wait for recess? The bell would ring, we would push away from our desks and jump out of our chairs, grab our coats and the teachers would release us into the great outdoors! We could hang out with our friends, climb on the equipment, play 4-square or sing on the swings. It was good for our bodies and brains. And it was fun!

Somewhere along the road to adulthood we stopped thinking about exercise as “play” and began to view it as “work”. It became a chore rather than a delight.

How do you bring the element of play back into your life? Maybe you stop listening to the outer voices that tell you what you should do and start with the inner voice that reminds you of past loves and enjoyment.

Maybe we need to stop defining fitness within the confines of what happens traditionally in the gym and start looking at it as a playground.

Maybe we must accept the reality of how our bodies move now and roll with that. Let go of how it used to move for you. Go back to your first love of movement, perhaps its playing ball, dancing or being in nature.

We don’t need to be perfect; we just need to give ourselves permission to try something new or revisit a forever love. Where is your playground? Is it at the gym, in the park, a music festival or even your own living room?

Change your mindset – then ready, set, play!
