Plymouth School District students enjoyed a number of field trips in recent months!

Plymouth High School

  • PHS World Languages Department took 33 students to Costa Rica over Spring Break to experience Spanish language immersion, participate in community service projects, & see different regions of the country!
  • PHS Softball spent Spring Break in Florida, including a visit to the Kennedy Space Center.
  • PHS Choirs competed at a choral festival at Queens College and performed on the Carnegie Hall stage during a Spring Break trip to New York City.

Riverview Middle School

  • Seventh-graders attended the Explore Your Future event at Lakeshore Technical College in January run by Inspire Sheboygan and Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce.
  • Girls in STEM Club toured Sargento Cheese on Feb. 9 and learned about potential careers.
  • Fifth-graders visited Discovery World in March.
  • Laura Arbuckle's students visited local businesses in March to work on their life skills.
  • Eighth-grade art students in Mrs. Blessing’s class toured the gallery at the John Michael Kohler Art Preserve, then glazed ceramic tiles. The staff then fired the tiles, and students received them a few weeks later.

Elementary schools

  • Fairview fourth-graders in Renee Reimer’s and Michelle Gudex’s classes attended STEMfest on Oct. 13.
  • Parkview kindergartners in Jenny Noster’s class visited the Kohler Art Preserve on Dec. 21 to learn about art and to create a grotto fish. This project is inspired by several of the art environments at the Art Preserve in which artists embellished concrete with tiles, beads, stones, and other found objects. Students also visited some of the artist collections, including Nek Chand, Fred Smith, and Mary Nohl.
  • Parkview kindergartners in Brianna Damkot’s class visited Project Angel Hugs on Jan. 17 to create Valentine Day cards for kids who are touched by cancer.
  • Childcare participants visited We Rock the Spectrum during Spring Break.
  • Parkview 4K students took a field trip to Nourish Farms on April 4. Nourish has been visiting the 4K classrooms monthly this school year to teach the kids about healthy eating. During the field trip, students picked spinach from the hoop house and helped make a snack with it in the kitchen. They also got to help plant seeds that will grow into various vegetables.
  • Fairview 4th grade went to Maywood to learn about making maple syrup and participated in some lumberjack activities.

A big thank-you to our families, parent organizations, and other donors who help make these outings possible!

PHS visits Costa Rica

The Plymouth High School World Languages Department took 33 students to Costa Rica during Spring Break to experience Spanish language immersion, participate in community service projects and see different regions of the country.

The first three nights of the trip, students stayed with host families in PHS Profe Rommy Herrera’s hometown of La Guacima. During the homestay they were able to practice their language skills and eat traditional meals. During the day, students volunteered at a women’s shelter/orphanage, participated in a reforestation program, learned about the history and process of making chocolate, and hiked a path to see several waterfalls. Along the way they learned about the flora and fauna of Costa Rica.

During the second half of the trip, the group traveled to the southern coast to the Osa Peninsula. After a 2-hour boat ride, the group settled into cabanas and played in the waves of the Pacific Ocean until sunset. The next day students took another hour boat ride to the Corcovado National Park, where they were able to see spider and squirrel monkeys, tapirs, iguanas, coati, anteaters, toucans, and more.

The next morning the group hiked to a quiet part of the beach where many students swam to explore tide pools, coral reefs and a volcanic island. After returning to the mainland, students were able to relax poolside in their much-deserved air-conditioned rooms for the evening. The final day in Costa Rica ended with a crocodile safari boat tour and dinner back in La Guacima.

“Throughout the trip, our PHS travelers were inquisitive, adventurous, resilient, positive, unified, hard-working and fun,” said PHS Spanish teacher Court Ramaeker. “Thank you to our students, for whom we are so grateful. To see Costa Rica and Panama through your eyes, to hear your stories, to see your smiles, and to know that the seed of exploration of this beautiful world has been planted is the greatest gift that we as educators can receive. ¡Pura Vida!”
