Community food classes begin soon

Plymouth School District Community Education & Recreation is offering several nutrition classes this spring!

Sourdough Bread & Discard Recipes - NEW!

Learn the fundamentals of sourdough in this hands-on, beginner-friendly class. Explore the science behind sourdough, create your own true starter, and practice mixing, proofing, shaping, and scoring techniques. Discover recipes that use starter discard, and leave with dough in progress, your own starter, and recipes to continue baking at home.
Instructor: Amanda Strojinc of Hopefully Homesteading
Details: 5:30-8:30pm Thursday April 16 in PHS Room C105
Fee: $46 through April 6, then $56

Micro Salad Garden - NEW!

Grow a fresh salad garden — lettuce, radish, spinach, and arugula — even in the smallest spaces! Learn practical tips for planning a small garden, building healthy soil, fertilizing properly, and keeping pests under control. Bring your own pot or small planters. Seeds and soil are provided, so you’ll leave ready to start growing your own greens.

Details: 5:30-6:30pm Monday April 27 In the PHS Food Science & Agriculture Center
Fee: $20 through April 20, then $30

Healthy Meal Prep in Minutes - NEW!

Make healthy meals ahead of time! Join us for a hands-on meal-prep class designed to simplify your week and boost your nutrition. You’ll learn how to make sheet pan high-protein pancakes, mason jar lunch salads, and flavorful chicken power bowls — perfect for fueling busy days with balanced, high-protein meals. Walk away with easy recipes, smart prep tips, and practical strategies to save time while eating well all week long.
Instructor: Maryjo Evenson, owner of MJ’s Fresh Prep
Details: 6-8pm Tuesday May 5 in PHS Room C105

Simple Bread Baking - NEW!

Baking fresh bread doesn’t have to be intimidating. In this hands-on class, you’ll learn simple techniques for mixing, shaping, and baking a basic country loaf and versatile flatbread (naan). Leave with one of each ready to bake at home, along with recipes and practical tips to confidently make fresh bread anytime.

How do I register?

  • Online: If possible, please register online via MyRec, which carries no service fee and offers immediate confirmation. You can pay online with a credit card to hold your spot, send a check by mail, or pay in person with cash, check, or credit card. (You first will need to create a MyRec account, if you have not already done so; once we verify residency and approve the account, you can register for any of our offerings going forward.)
  • In person: You can register in our office, where we will help set up your MyRec account and can accept cash, check, and credit cards. Park in the visitor lot in front of Plymouth High School, 125 S. Highland Ave., and enter Door 18 on the south end of the building. Our office is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.
  • By mail: While MyRec registration is preferred, you still can print a registration form to mail with a check to Community Ed & Rec, 125 S. Highland Ave., Plymouth WI 53073.
