PHS WeACT changing lives around the globe
Posted March 9, 2026
Five children living in other parts of the world have received life-changing surgeries, thanks to students at Plymouth High School.
The PHS chapter of WeACT conducts various campaigns throughout the year to help create positive change in our community and the world. Its creative fundraising efforts – including bake sales, craft sales, dances, and last year’s "Bananas for Yusuf!" event where they collected bananas, then baked and sold banana bread – support global goals and local charities.
“The money comes from the students at Plymouth High School, and goes directly to kids across the world,” said student Gretchen Herzog. “It’s truly a from-kids-to-kids project. With the help of Mrs. (Laura) Koebel, our club advisor, and the club's active members, we are able to change lives!”
A major effort by the club has been raising funds to pay for surgeries for children. So far, PHS WeACT has helped provide surgeries for:
- Sowali, who had bilateral clubfeet - treatment complete
- Dasani, who had bilateral clubfeet - treatment complete
- Bridget, who had right injection neuritis - treatment complete
- Blessing, who had a right clubfoot - treatment complete
- Yusuf, who had left knock knee - in treatment
WeACT has set a goal of helping two more children this year and will be selling “Cookie Dough for Dickson” beginning Monday March 16. Students can buy edible cookie dough after school; in addition, people can preorder cookie dough containers to make cookies at home. To preorder cookie dough, contact Ms. Koebel at lkoebel@plymouth.k12.wi.us.
“We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to live a happy and healthy life, and we are more than ready to work to get everyone there,” Gretchen said.
