NOTE: The performance scheduled for Sunday March 15 will be postponed to 2 p.m. Sunday March 22 due to inclement weather. (If you are unable to attend the rescheduled performance, ticket refund information will be shared Monday.)
Plymouth High School will present “Mamma Mia!” as its annual musical March 12-15!
“Mamma Mia!” features the timeless music of ABBA and reminds us that the people who shape our lives often do so in ways we never fully anticipate.
Set on a picturesque Greek island, the story follows 20-year-old bride-to-be Sophie, who dreams of having her father walk her down the aisle. Unbeknownst to her mother, Sophie secretly invites three men from her mother’s past to her wedding, hoping to identify her biological father. Chaos ensues as the three potential dads arrive, forcing her mother to confront her past while Sophie navigates love and family.
Performances will begin at 7:00 p.m. nightly from Thursday March 12 through Saturday March 14, with a matinee at 2:00 p.m. Sunday March 15, in the school auditorium, 125 S. Highland Ave. Reserved-seating tickets are $10 (+ service fee of $1) and are available only online via GoFan (instructions).
Stage floor painted
Of particular note is the stage floor, which has been completely painted for “Mamma Mia!”. Normally, crews don’t paint the actual stage floor, but an opportunity was created since the stage is due to be repainted after the musical anyway.
PHS graduate Kate Coppersmith headed the effort, coming in over a recent weekend to get the work started. The following Monday, drama and arts students helped her throughout the day to finish the work. After a sealer was applied and dried, rehearsals resumed on the stage.
“This was a great collaboration between our art, theater, and music programs,” said PHS art teacher Ryan Krippendorf. “It’s another example of a way in which alumni help and collaborate at PHS.”
