Plymouth School District Community Education & Recreation offers several ways to help you meet your healthy New Year’s goals!

Double your chances of success with this new incentive: Register for a year membership to the Community Fitness Center, then receive 10% off group fitness classes and/or Lap Swim!

Community Fitness Center

Community members can purchase memberships to the Fitness Center in the Plymouth High School addition, which opened in 2019. The facility, which is staffed by adults, features Matrix circuit training, cardio machines, and free weights.

How to sign up: Register online for a Fitness Center membership via the MyRec system. (You will need to create a MyRec account, if you have not done so already.) Memberships also can be purchased in the Community Ed & Rec office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. (Park in the visitor lot in front of the school and enter Door 18.)

Hours:

  • Monday-Friday: 5-7:30 a.m. and 3:30-7 p.m.
  • Saturday: 7-11 a.m.

Fees:

  • Individual district resident: $25/month, $135/half-year, $240/year
  • Couple (2 adults at same district address): $195/half-year, $340/ year
  • Senior (district resident age 62+): $20/month, $90/half-year, $155/year
  • Senior couple (district residents at least one of whom is age 62+): $125/half-year, $215/ year
  • Under age 23 (district resident): $50/year
  • Active military: $50/year
  • Non-resident: $35/month, $180/half-year, $315/year

Punch cards with 10 visits are available for $40 each, and day passes are $5.

Fitness Center personal trainer/nutrition coach

Fitness Center members have access to the services of a NASM-Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Nutrition Coach, Heather Bassett.

Personal training
Mrs. Bassett will design a workout based on specific fitness goals either in small groups or as 1-on-1 personal training.
Fee for one person: $24 for a 30-minute session and $30 for a 45-minute session. Discounts are available for multiple sessions or multiple people together.

Movement Assessment
Get feedback and general recommendations for focus areas, as well as suggestions for exercises or equipment based on your goals. Takes about 45 minutes, with a shorter follow-up session included.
Fee: $25, or combine with Nutrition Assessment for $40

Nutrition Assessment
Gain general nutrition knowledge and set goals to focus on behavior change. Regular check-ins and a shorter follow-up session are included. Takes about 45 minutes.
Fee: $25, or combine with Movement Assessment for $40

Wellness & nutrition classes

Looking to improve your health this year, maybe by eating better or making more of your own meals? We’re offering several classes that might help, including three new ones!

Eating Healthy in 30 Minutes or Less - NEW
Whether your family is always on the go or you are a family of one, you will get tips and tricks to get in the groove of healthier eating during the week. Sample recipes and leave with resources for meal planning, prepping, storage, kid-friendly recipes, eating on the go, and label reading.

Freezer Meal Workshop
Spend an hour assembling 4 freezer meals to feed 4-6 people. Later add your choice of protein, heat, & serve! Veggies, spices, herbs, bags, recipes, etc. all supplied. Take one class or both.

Get Your Energy Back - NEW
Everyone has stress, but if you are feeling fatigued, worn out, stressed out, and achy more often than not, then this class may be for you! Learn about what stress can do to your body, how to manage your symptoms, and reduce stress overall.

Herbs for Topical Application: Lotions, Salves, & More
Learn to make infused oils from whole herbs and then transform them into moisturizing and healing products. Make infused oils, salves, lotions, sprays, and more to take home and enjoy. Participants also leave with recipes and information about the healing qualities of herbs.

Let's Make Cheese Curds
This fun and delicious class will cover choosing milk, culturing, and coagulation as well as curd formation. Everyone will take home recipes and cheese curds made in class.

Track/Hall Walking

Looking for a free, simple way to keep moving this winter? Community members can walk the hallways and indoor track at Plymouth High School for free during designated times!

The following options are available on regular school days:
Before school:
Track: 5:30-7 a.m. through March 22
After school:
Track: 4-7 p.m. (4-6 p.m. Fridays) through March 22
Halls: 3-8 p.m. (3-6 p.m. Fridays) through April 26

How to sign up: No pre-registration is necessary and walking is free, but be sure to sign the roster located outside the Fitness Center each visit to help us gauge interest in this activity. Park in the visitor lot in front of the addition or in the student lot south of the building and enter Door 18 (Community Ed & Rec/District entrance).

Group fitness & aquatic classes

Prefer a group class for the camaraderie and/or accountability? Choose from the 19 fitness & aquatic opportunities offered this winter!

An early registration discount of $10 is available through Jan. 7 on these classes, plus a senior discount of 20 percent for school district residents ages 62 and up.

All-Levels Yoga
Blend breath and movement to improve flexibility, muscle tone, & balance. Perfect for beginners as well as yoga enthusiasts.

Cycle and Core
This high-energy cycling class features a 30-minute heart-pounding ride followed by 15 minutes of targeted strength training for your core with varying abdominal and low-back exercises.

Gentle Yoga
Learn basic poses and enhance flexibility and relaxation to slow the mind and body down at the end of the week.Great for all levels.

Intro to Jiu-Jitsu
This introduction to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu covers the basic positions, movements, & techniques of this grappling sport in a safe and controlled environment. Ages 16+

Les Mills BodyPump
This science-backed, full-body barbell workout to great music sculpts and strengthens each muscle group. Set your weight on the barbell to achieve 1,000 repetitions or more each class!

30-Minute Circuit Blast
This quick strength and conditioning workout is a great complement to cardiovascular exercise, using accessory equipment and body weight to challenge and tone your body.

Total Body Training
Increase heart rate with low- to medium- impact intervals using weights, bosu balls, resistance bands, and stability balls, while strengthening the muscles of the core.

Aquatics

Deep Water
This motivational class uses water resistance for a great workout. You must be comfortable in deep water. You can use noodles or cuffs.

Water Walking
This self-paced, self-directed class in shallow water is perfect for those with limited mobility. Just walk at your own pace! Held at the same time as Deep Water, so help is nearby.

20/20 Aquatics
Quick-paced shallow aerobics for 20 minutes followed by 20 minutes of hand buoys and noodles. Your feet will be off the floor for extended periods of time.
