PHS students help renovate Nutt Hill shelter

Posted November 10, 2025

Plymouth High School students have been helping prepare the rejuvenated Nutt Hill Winter Park, which will be reopening this winter.

PHS Building Construction students under the guidance of teacher Beau Biller began renovating the existing warming shelter in March, and students are continuing the work this fall. They framed in the open-air portion of the building and installed sheathing and windows, and now are working on finishing exterior siding as well as interior walls and trim.

“There is a lot happening there right now, so it is good for students to be on an actual job site and see all of the different trades and contractors working,” Mr. Biller said. “In addition to all the great work experience, students get to see the project from start to finish and can be proud of their contribution to a community project that will be around for years to come.”

Work on the warming shelter is expected to wrap up this month, though there may be more projects for PHS students in the near future, Mr. Biller said.

You can see their handiwork for yourself during the Nutt Hill Open House set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday Nov. 15. Complimentary s’mores will be available at the fire pit, and a food truck will be on scene. Season passes, tubing packages, and Nutt Hill merchandise will available for purchase, so that you are ready for opening day Dec. 16.

Cheese Capital Winter Park, a non-profit organization, has partnered with the local community and the City of Plymouth to make significant improvements to the infrastructure, facilities, and property at Nutt Hill. Together, they have invested nearly $2.3 million to install a state-of-the-art snowmaking system, purchase grooming equipment, install a conveyor system, make land modifications, construct a new building, and make building modifications to the existing shelter.
