PHS Alumni Art Show on display April 20

Posted April 10, 2023

Plymouth High School is organizing a juried Alumni Art Show, which has a theme of “Legacy.”

All PHS alumni, whether or not they took art classes, were invited to submit work for consideration. About a dozen pieces have been selected for the show, including watercolors, mixed media, and textiles.

The chosen works will be on display for the public Thursday April 20 at Generations Intergenerational Center, 1500 Douglas Drive, with a reception and refreshments from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Admission is free.

PHS art educator Ryan Krippendorf, who is coordinating the show, wants alumni to gain knowledge of their legacy in the visual arts program at PHS. “I hope they remember their time here and see how it has paved the way for the students who are in the program now,” he said.

At the same time, current PHS visual arts students can see how art has helped alumni both inside and outside the community. “It will give students the opportunity to make connections and even find a path in the arts that is possible,” Mr. Krippendorf added.

Though this is a new initiative, the idea already was in the back of Mr. Krippendorf’s head when he joined the PHS staff almost five years ago. “During the PHS Senior Show last year, many people had talked to me about doing an alumni show,” he said. “This moved the idea from the back to the front.”
