Youth & family opportunities begin soon

Plymouth School District Community Education & Recreation is offering a wide variety of activities for children and families this autumn!

Hall/Track Walking 

For all ages. Community members can walk the PHS hallways & indoor track during designated times.
Halls: 3-8pm Monday-Thursday & 3-6pm Fridays Sept 8-May 21
Track: 5:30-7am Monday-Friday and 3-5:30pm Mondays & Wednesdays Sept 9-Dec 23 (Additional times may be available when no groups are using the facility.) NOTE: To walk the track you will need to check out an access badge from the Fitness Center worker and leave your ID/keys until you return the badge. 
Fee: Free, but enter Door 18 & sign in each time at the table located outside the Fitness Center

Child Swim Lessons

For ages 6+ and at least 50” tall. We follow the American Red Cross courses. Children must have passed the previous level before advancing to the next level.

Mini Pumpkin/Gourd – NEW

For ages 7+ with a parent. Unleash your autumn creativity by designing your very own Halloween or Thanksgiving centerpiece! Choose between a charming ghost gourd or a mini pumpkin and let the fun begin. We'll have everything you need, including instruction, gourds, glue, and an array of dried florals grown at Airy Point Farms.

Details: 6-7pm Wednesday Oct 14 in the PHS Food Science & Agriculture Center
Fee: $39 through Oct 7, then $40 (includes all supplies)

Boys Basketball Camp

For boys in grades 2-8. PHS coaches and players correct, teach, and help perfect the individual fundamentals of basketball. Camp consists of individual offensive and defensive techniques, as well as scrimmaging in small groups and competing in drills and contests.

Fee: $18 until Sept 28, then $28 

Home Alone 

For grades 3-6. Children who spend time home without an adult will gain a knowledge of safety concepts. They will learn to use 911, what to do if the lights go out, and how to handle small emergencies.

Middle-school Intramurals

For grades 5-6. A variety of physical activities to accommodate different skill levels and interests, with a focus on enjoyment of physical activities, rather than competitive pressure. Participants will enjoy the benefits of movement, develop positive attitudes, increase self-esteem and positive social interactions, and broaden their skill, fitness and leisure activities.

Youth Center 

For grades 5-8. Located next to Riverview Middle School, the center is open after school until 5pm on regular school days with at least one adult present at all times. 
Details: 2:45-5pm school days; next to Riverview
Fee: $69/year or $34/trimester or $17/month

Middle & High School Speed Camp

For grades 5-12. Led by a strength and conditioning specialist, athletes will break down the mechanics of athletic movement. In 4 weeks, students will master the foundational movement patterns required to dominate their sport, reduce risk of injury, and out-pace the competition.

Details: 2:50-3:30pm Mondays Sept 14-Oct 5 on the PHS outdoor track (MPF in inclement weather)
Fee: $20 until Sept 8, then $30

Kayaking

For ages 10+ with adult. This introductory class is for those new to this water sport.
Instructor: Andrew Arentsen
Details: 5-6:30pm Tuesdays Sept 15-29 on Mullet River
Fee: $27/person until Sept 8, then $37 (includes kayak - limit 250 lbs, paddles, and lifejacket)

Middle-School Tennis Open Play

For grades 6-8. Learn the basics of tennis (forehand, backhand, serving) or keep advancing your skills (lobbing, poaching, volleying) to get ready for the spring tennis season!

Details: 1-2:30pm Saturdays Sept 12-Dec 19 (except Nov 28) in the Fairview Gym

Middle-School Lifting

For grades 7-8. Learn the basics of athletic-based fitness training and develop speed, explosiveness, agility, strength, & conditioning. Students who complete the class and pass the Free-Weight Safety Test can use the PHS Fitness Center independently.

Instant Ukulele for Busy People - NEW

For ages 13+. This online course will give you years of musical enjoyment, without needing private lessons! Learn basic chords and get playing along with your favorite songs right away using your own computer and instrument at home.
Instructor: Chords Are Key 
Details: 6:30-9:30pm Mon Sept 28 online
Fee: $64 through Sept 21, then $74 (includes an online book, online recorded follow-up lessons, a recording of the class, and access to optional live periodic question-and-answer sessions)

Instant Guitar for Busy People - NEW

For ages 13+. This online course will teach you basic chords to get you playing along with your favorite songs right away using your own instrument. This partly hands-on class will be held using Zoom.

Refuse To Be a Victim 

For ages 13+. Learn basic principles for crime prevention and personal safety.
Instructor: Darla Neargarth 
Details: 6-8:30pm Mondays Oct 5 & 12 in the PHS Library 
Fee: $39 through Sept 28, then $49; spouse or teen can attend for free as a BOGO! 

Sugar Cookie Decorating Workshop - NEW

For ages 14+. Get ready to decorate Halloween-themed cookies! Participants will receive basic instructions and learn techniques for decorating cookies that will impress holiday guests, then put their new skills to the test decorating cookies to take home.

Details: 6-7pm Mon Oct 12 in PHS Room C105
Fee: $39 until Oct 5, then $49 (includes 6 cookies, frosting, spatula, & sprinkles)

How do I register?

  • Online: If possible, please register online via MyRec. (You first will need to create a MyRec account, if you have not already done so; once we verify residency and approve the account, you can register for any of our offerings going forward.) You can pay online with a credit card, but please note that our processor charges a 3% fee; you can avoid the fee by selecting “Print a Pre-registration form” for your Checkout Method and then either mailing or bringing payment to our office. Your spot is not secured until we receive payment.
  • In person: You can register in our office, where we will help set up your MyRec account and can accept cash, check, and credit cards. Park in the visitor lot in front of Plymouth High School, 125 S. Highland Ave., and enter Door 18 on the south end of the building. Our office is open 8am-4pm weekdays (closing at noon Fridays from June 12 through Aug. 21).
  • By mail: While MyRec registration is preferred, you still can print a registration form to mail with a check to Community Ed & Rec, 125 S. Highland Ave., Plymouth WI 53073.
