Nature-oriented, family-friendly opportunities available

Plymouth School District Community Education & Recreation is offering a worm composting workshop and a tree-themed family hike this summer!

Intro to Composting with Worms Workshop

This family-friendly, hands-in-the-bin experience will allow you to learn the basics of worm composting and build your own compost system to take home. Soon your fruit and veggie scraps will become an all-natural fertilizer, and you will minimize your garbage output. Plastic tote and worms included.
Instructor: Laura, conservation specialist with the Sheboygan County Planning & Conservation Department and a Master Naturalist/Composter/Recycler
Details: 5:30-6:30pm Wednesday August 5 in the Parkview Secret Garden
Fee: $20 until July 29, then $30; includes a plastic bin and worms for each family

Habitat Hike - Trees!

For all ages! We will learn to identify many common trees based on their unique features. Afterwards, we will look for the many different varieties of trees growing there while on a short hike. End with unstructured play at the playground.
Instructors: Laura & Katie, conservation specialists with the Sheboygan County Planning & Conservation Department
Details: 9:30-11am Friday August 21 at Meyer Nature Park, 300 Daleview Drive
Fee: Free, but please pre-register so we know to expect you.

How do I register?

  • Online: If possible, please register online via MyRec. There is no fee for registering online, though our credit-card processer assesses a fee for online payments. You can avoid the fee by selecting “Print a pre-registration form” for your Checkout Method, and then mailing a check or paying in person with cash or check. Please note that your spot is not reserved until we receive payment.
  • In person: You can register in our office, where we will help set up your MyRec account and can accept credit cards (for a fee), checks, and cash. Park in the visitor lot in front of Plymouth High School, 125 S. Highland Ave., and enter Door 18 on the south end of the building. Our office is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays (closing at noon Fridays through Aug. 21).
  • By mail: While MyRec registration is preferred, you still can print a registration form to mail with a check to Community Ed & Rec, 125 S. Highland Ave., Plymouth WI 53073.
