Incoming 4K students should enroll by May 1
Posted April 20, 2026
The Plymouth School District encourages families of students who will begin 4-year-old kindergarten in the fall to enroll them now, as staffing levels are being finalized for the 2026-27 school year.
Every effort will be made to provide placement information (i.e. school location and morning/afternoon class) by June 1 to families who have enrolled by May 1. Enrollments will be accepted through the summer, though there will be less flexibility for placement after May 1.
Children who will be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1 are eligible for 4K, which features play-based learning in a classroom setting. The nurturing environment is designed to foster independence, encourage creativity, provide for social growth, and promote new learning.
New options
The district is excited to offer two new 4K options for the 2026-27 school year, pending approval by the Board of Education at its April 21 meeting:
Full-day 4K
Classes would meet five days a week from 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., the same as other elementary students, with a class at Horizon and a class Parkview. Each class would have a DPI-licensed teacher and support staff to maintain a ratio of 1 adult to every 10 students. Advantages of full-day 4K include:
- Improved academics, particularly literacy
- Additional fine arts programming for 4K students
- Reduced reliance on childcare for families
- No mid-day transportation costs for the district
Onsite child care, operated by Community Education & Recreation, is available outside the school day from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, including no-school days and summer break.
Nature-based program
This new option for families would be offered in partnership with Plymouth Forest Montessori, as a 4K Community Approach program. Former Riverview art teacher Rachel Blessing, a DPI-licensed teacher and Wisconsin Master Naturalist, started Plymouth Forest Montessori with the 2025-26 school year at Camp Anokijig. The school emphasizes:
- Montessori programming, which features student-led learning
- An emphasis on growing people who are compassionate, curious, and environmentally conscious
More details will be available once the Board of Education approves the partnership and enters into an agreement with Plymouth Forest Montessori.
Note: We will be contacting families already enrolled to discuss the new options.
