Mike Fedyszyn, band teacher at Riverview Middle School, has been named a quarterfinalist for the 2025 Grammy Music Educator Award!
Mr. Fedyszyn is one of 9 finalists from Wisconsin and one of 215 nationally for the award, which recognizes current educators — from kindergarten through college in public and private schools — who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who advocate for the ongoing inclusion of music education in schools.
This year’s quarterfinalists were chosen from more than 2,400 nominations. Additionally, 159 legacy applicants from 2024 also are eligible for the 2025 award.
Fifteen semifinalists will be announced later this year, each of whom will receive a $500 honorarium and a matching school grant. To be eligible to be a semifinalist, Mr. Fedyszyn now needs to answer additional questions and prepare video recordings of himself teaching.
The semifinalists then will be narrowed to 10 finalists, each of whom will receive a $1,000 honorarium and a matching school grant. From the finalists, judges will choose the 2025 Grammy Music Educator Award recipient, who will be flown to Los Angeles to attend the 67th Grammy Awards.
The Music Educator Award program, a collaborative effort between the Recording Academy and Grammy Museum, is supported by the Chuck Lorre Family Foundation this year. Additional backing comes from the American Choral Directors Association, National Association for Music Education, NAMM Foundation, and National Education Association, which support the program through outreach to their members.
