PHS students selected for State Honors Music Project

Posted November 6, 2023

Plymouth High School senior Max Halle recently participated in the State Honors Music Project, which culminates in performances during the annual Wisconsin State Music Association conference.

Max sang bass in the High School Mixed Choir. This was the fifth consecutive year he participated in the State Honors Choir. In addition, PHS freshman Eva Haak was chosen as an alternate for the Middle Level Choir.

The State Honors Music Project offers musically talented students the opportunity to rehearse and perform with the nation’s finest conductors in a professional and disciplined setting. Participants are selected after highly competitive auditions requiring students to perform a solo and to demonstrate sight-reading ability.

At the high-school level, 426 students were selected from the nearly 1,250 who auditioned, with only 26 each chosen for soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. Participants attended an intensive four-day summer camp in June, then reconvened to perform Oct. 26 at the Overture Center in Madison; a recording of the performance will air on PBS in late November.

Registration for the 2024 State Honors Music Project opens soon! Interested students should speak with their music teacher or visit the WSMA website for more information.
