Meet our new principals

Posted August 21, 2023

The Plymouth School District is welcoming two new principals for the 2023-24 school year, though neither are new to the district!

Chris Helmer

Principal at Horizon Elementary School
Educational background: Attended Parkview, Riverview, and is a proud graduate of Plymouth High School; bachelor's degree in Special Education-Specific Learning Disabilities from UW-Milwaukee; master’s degree in Administrative Leadership-Principal's License from UW-Milwaukee
Previous experience: My teaching career started in Milwaukee Public Schools at 38th Street School as a special education teacher. After two years, I moved to the Howard-Suamico School District; I was a special education teacher for 14 years and the district Response to Intervention Director for 1 year. In 2014, my family and I moved back to Plymouth, where I have worked as a special education teacher at Fairview Elementary. I am excited to begin my adventure as the new principal of Horizon Elementary School.
Family: My family consists of my wife, Tina, who is one of the Plymouth School District school psychologists; Brennan, a junior at PHS; and Ryan, a freshman at PHS. We also have two cats and a rabbit.
Interests: In summer, I love to bike and will often be on the Plankroad Trail. This summer I was extra adventurous and started doing rides up to 50 miles long! When I have some down time, I like to relax by playing various yard games (washers, corn hole, ladder golf), and sitting by a campfire. When inside, I will read or watch things related to history, science fiction (Star Wars is my favorite), or fantasy (Lord of the Rings is also high on my list).
What are you most excited about this year? I am blessed with being able to join and lead Horizon Elementary staff and continue to expand my ability to help others within the Plymouth community.

Todd Hunt

Principal at Parkview Elementary School
Educational background: Graduated from Gladstone High School in Upper Michigan; master's in Educational Leadership from Silver Lake College
Previous experience: I taught for 7 years at Cascade Elementary School, then I was principal there for 1 year. Then I was principal at Horizon Elementary School for 7 years, followed by 6 years as principal at Riverview Middle School. I then taught for 2 years at Fairview Elementary School in 3rd grade. Now I am at Parkview. Fun fact:  My first teaching position was as a long-term substitute teacher at Parkview from January-May 2000.
Family: I have 5 children ages 1 year to 27 years old. I also have two amazing grandchildren.
Interests: We enjoy the chaos and excitement of a large family, along with hiking, swimming, cooking, hunting, fishing, joking around, biking, our dog Daisy, and our chickens Elizabeth and Cookie.
What are you most excited about this year? I am excited about getting to know all of the families, students, and staff. I cannot wait to support great things and lead a happy and positive school where everyone learns and grows!
Is there anything else you want people to know? My children go to Parkview and have already put in their requests to the new principal.
