Parkview students to be featured in opera
Posted May 4, 2026
The upcoming Opera for the Young production of “The Elixir of Love” will feature a chorus of students from Parkview Elementary School!
The students, under the direction of teacher Deb Sawyer, will join the company’s professional artists on stage, providing a unique and enriching performance experience.
About the show
With playful melodies and laugh-out-loud comedy, “The Elixir of Love” whisks audiences away to America’s Old West, packed with timeless music, mischievous fun, and lessons on growing up and forgiveness.
The opera is set in the dusty town of Lonesome Gulch. The swaggering Sergeant Corey looms over timid Jimmy Reno as they vie for Miss Addy’s attention, while the sly Dr. Dulcamara rolls in, peddling her so-called magic elixir – which turns out to be root beer.
For this production, Parkview students take the stage as the Justice of the Peace, the Soldier, and a chorus of lively townsfolk. Students throughout the Upper Midwest participated in a “Be a Designer” contest to help design Dr. Dulcamara’s outfit and her cure-all cart.
A public performance appropriate for all ages will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday May 13 at Plymouth Arts Center, 520 E. Mill Street. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and may be purchased at the Plymouth Arts Center or online via TicketLeap (with $1.54/$0.65 in fees). Advance tickets are recommended, as seating is limited to the first 150 guests.
Opera for the Young also will collaborate with all three public elementary schools to present in-school performances May 14-15.
