Not quite a year old, the Panther ’Fits Student Sharing & Career Closet at Plymouth High School already is fulfilling its mission of providing students with clothing and other essentials to help them find jobs and feel a sense of belonging.
“What has surprised me the most is how excited students are about the closet,” said PHS library media specialist Megan Hummitzsch. “Students are going in the closet every day, either looking for things they need or just looking to see what's available.”
The Panther ’Fits Closet – actually a room adjacent to the school library – offers free clothes, shoes, coats, personal hygiene items, school supplies, and other things to help students succeed. Students also are able to request specific items via an online form.
“This is not just for those who cannot afford items,” said district administrative assistant Denall Moore. “It is also for students to see how to dress for an interview, for example.”
Students seeking volunteer hours as well as special education students have been helping with organizing and cleaning. “It has provided so much more than just clothes for our student body,” Ms. Hummitzsch said.
Organizers have been amazed at the generosity shown by local businesses and community members. “The most surprising thing for me has been the overwhelming community support!” Mrs. Moore said.
Dec. 4 update: Panther ’Fits Closet currently has a need for new or very gently used winter coats and boots in young adult sizes. Everything else is in good supply at present, thanks to the generosity of our families, staff, and community!
The Panther ’Fits Closet is accepting donations of new and gently used clothing appropriate for teens. Contact the PHS Office at 920-893-6911 to set up a time to bring in donations.

The Panther ’Fits Student Sharing & Career Closet opened in November 2023. Located in Room B220 near the PHS Library, it is open to all students during the school day; staff also can admit students outside those hours for private shopping.
In addition to Ms. Hummitzsch and Mrs. Moore, coordinators include PHS secretary Grace Wascher, retired teacher Kay Tharp, and PHS teacher Tracy Heinbuch. Their efforts earned the 2024 Community Impact Award from the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce.
