Panther ’Fits Closet wins Plymouth Chamber award

Posted March 18, 2024

Congratulations to the PHS Panther 'Fits Student Sharing & Career Closet team for winning the 2024 Community Impact Award from the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce!

The initiative also received a Congressional Commendation from U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothmann.

The Sharing & Career Closet offers free clothes, shoes, coats, personal hygiene items, school supplies, and other items students need to help them succeed. A student preparing for a job interview can “shop” for appropriate attire, for example, or a student needing cold-weather clothes can pick out a jacket and mittens.

The “closet,” located in Room B220 near the library, is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. during school hours; staff also can admit students outside those hours for private shopping.

The effort was spearheaded by administrative assistants Denall Moore and Grace Wascher, PHS teachers Megan Hummitzsch and Tracy Heinbuch, and retired teacher Kay Tharp.

Organizers said the effort is successful thanks to donations from:

  • Maggie's Closet
  • Neat Repeats
  • Walmart
  • Fringe Benefits
  • Plymouth FFA
  • Chris Haugen of Haugen Homes Painting
  • 20/20 Visions
  • Sherwin Williams
  • Anonymous donors
  • Many drop-in donors

Would you like to contribute? Contact the PHS Office at 920-893-6911 to set up a time to bring in donations of new and clean, gently used items. Prom dresses and toiletry items in particular are being sought. Monetary donations are also welcome.
