cereal boxes set up in PHS gym

Plymouth High School students at last year’s Cereal Box Domino Challenge

Area schools collecting cereal boxes to topple, donate

Posted February 12, 2024

The community is invited to join all area schools in donating boxes of cereal for the 2nd annual Plymouth School District Cereal Box Domino Challenge!

Last year, about 800 boxes of cereal were collected for the Plymouth Food Pantry by the five public schools, each of which held its own domino topple using the cereal boxes.

This year, with a goal of 1,000+ boxes, donations from all five schools will be combined with those from St. John the Baptist School, St. John Lutheran School, and community members. The school with the highest percentage of donations relative to its student population will win a prize.

Donations will be collected at PHS until the morning of Thursday Feb. 29, and at the other schools through Wednesday Feb. 28. Community members can drop off cereal in the Community Ed & Rec Office during the school day (enter Door 18 on the south end of PHS) and in the collection box outside the Fitness Center during Hall Walking hours (3-8pm Monday-Thursday, 3-6pm Friday).

All of the cereal boxes will be part of one giant domino topple at 10:45 a.m. Thursday Feb. 29 in the Plymouth High School gym. Other schools are invited to come and watch; the event also will be livestreamed on the Plymouth Panthers YouTube channel.

The effort, spearheaded by the PHS National Honor Society and the Plymouth School District Pegasus gifted & talented program, is being organized by Roy Schwab, district gifted & talented coordinator and district health & wellness coordinator.

Video of the 2024 cereal box collection, domino topple, and delivery to the food pantry will be submitted to the Do Good Wisconsin statewide contest, which will give awards for most boxes collected as well as most unique video. Last year’s challenge saw more than 30 schools around the state collecting 19,000 boxes of cereal for local food pantries.
