PHS takes 1st & 2nd at Burger Challenge

Posted December 11, 2023

Congratulations to the Plymouth High School students invited to compete at this year’s Fox Valley Technical College Burger Challenge!

Ramona Sternhagen took first place with a burger that contained sauteed mushrooms and apple jelly, with pickled onions on top. Addyson McCoy took second place with a burger made of hamburger and brat meat, topped with sauerkraut and her own aioli.

PHS students Sammie Andrews, Grant Thome, and Janessa Malone also were selected for the competition.

Participants initially created their burger at PHS and submitted a video describing it with steps and pictures.  FVTC selected the top entries and invited those students to prepare their burgers in front of FVTC faculty Dec. 1.

Students were assessed on kitchen organization, flavor profile, sanitation, plate presentation, and fundamental cooking techniques. They were given constructive criticism and positive feedback, as well as a tour of the facility.
