students working out

The next session of Middle-School Lifting begins Nov. 27.

Middle-School Lifting open to grades 7 & 8

Posted November 20, 2023

All area students in grades 7 and 8, including those who are homeschooled or attending parochial schools, are invited to participate in the next session of Middle-School Lifting, which begins Monday Nov. 27.

This free program models the training received by Plymouth High School athletes, explained Christian Vollbrecht, Riverview physical education teacher, PHS head baseball coach, and PHS assistant football coach. Participants learn the basics of athletic-based fitness training and develop speed, explosiveness, agility, strength, and conditioning.

Students who successfully complete the program and pass a free-weight safety test can work out independently in the PHS Fitness Center, once they are registered for a free middle-school membership. (Other district middle-school students may use the facility if they have a membership and are accompanied by a parent/guardian.)

Middle-School Lifting is offered through Community Education & Recreation. In order to participate, students must be registered via the MyRec online registration system; space is limited to 30 students per session, so register as soon as possible but no later than Nov. 26.

Class will meet from 2:45 to 4 p.m. Mondays/Wednesdays or Tuesdays/Thursdays Nov. 27-Jan. 11 in the fitness center at Riverview, 300 Riverside Circle. Students must have a pre-arranged ride home and be picked up no later than 4:15 p.m., or they can join the Youth Center and stay there until 5 p.m.

Please note: Middle-School Lifting will be offered again Jan. 22-Feb. 29; registration is now open.
