Info Hub marks 5 years of family fun & rec options

Posted November 13, 2023

Those looking for information on family-friendly events and recreation opportunities for all ages are encouraged to check out the Plymouth Area Info Hub, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary.

“When we launched this initiative in 2018, we wanted an easy way for parents and other community members to find out about the amazing things going on our area,” said Jamie Piontkowski, community communications coordinator for the Plymouth School District. “We’ve seen that effort grow as more and more people find it to be a helpful resource.”

The page was especially valuable during the Covid pandemic, she noted, when in-person activities came to a halt. “The Info Hub and its Facebook Page helped partners to get word out about the incredibly creative activities they developed to keep people active and connected during that challenging time,” Mrs. Piontkowski said.

The effort has since returned to its original focus on in-person events and opportunities. A recent check of the Plymouth Area Info Hub website at www.plymouthinfohub.com finds information on a concert at Plymouth High School, story times and teen events at Plymouth Public Library, an exhibit at the Plymouth Arts Center, the Chamber of Commerce Letters to Santa contest, and a Middle-School Lifting class and the Friday Playgroup from Community Ed & Rec.

The website also shares information on:

  • Child Rec: Fun places to play as well as youth developmental leagues and interscholastic sports
  • Adult Rec: Fitness centers, recreation opportunities, and winter sports
  • Partners: Websites, Facebook pages, addresses, and phone numbers for Info Hub community partners
  • Calendar: Shared calendar populated with family-friendly events and recreation opportunities by the various partners

In addition to the website, the Info Hub has a Facebook Page (@PlymouthInfoHub), which has more than 900 followers and features posts about upcoming events and opportunities offered by partners.

About the Plymouth Area Info Hub

The Plymouth Area Info Hub is the result of community collaboration that came about after a recreation consultant hired by the City of Plymouth found that there is a plethora of activities in the area but no centralized way to get information about them.

About that same time, the Plymouth School District recognized that some sort of “information hub” would assist with its strategic plan goals of encouraging extracurricular participation and facilitating community engagement, and challenged Community Education & Recreation staff to spearhead such an initiative.

A group of community partners met and determined that a shared website was the best place to begin, launching plymouthinfohub.com in the summer of 2018. The Facebook Page followed a year later.

Founding partners were Plymouth School District, Community Education & Recreation, City of Plymouth, Plymouth Public Library, Plymouth Arts Center, Generations, Family Resource Center, and Plymouth Chamber of Commerce. Girl Scouts of Manitou, Sheboygan County 4-H, and Project Angel Hugs have since joined as partners.

The Info Hub welcomes additional community partners who provide family activities and/or recreation opportunities for youths and adults in and around Plymouth & Cascade. Community Ed & Rec provides administrative support, but partners are asked to add their own events into a shared calendar and the help promote the Info Hub. Contact Community Ed & Rec at 920-892-5068 or commedrec@plymouth.k12.wi.us for more information.
