German exchange students visit Plymouth

Posted October 30, 2023

The Plymouth School District recently hosted an exchange group from Germany, who were able to attend sporting events, go sightseeing, and experience everyday activities with area families.

The German contingent, who were here Oct. 5-19, are from Plymouth’s sister city, Karben, which is near Frankfurt in the state of Hessen.

During their visit, the two teachers and 20 students stayed with host families, participated in everyday activities, shadowed their host students, carved pumpkins, attended football games and other sporting events (including Bucks and Badgers games), visited the Wade House and Madison, and gave presentations to groups at Plymouth High School and Riverview Middle School.

The visit was organized by Riverview teacher Jessica Barrington, PHS teacher Laura Koebel, and retired PHS teacher Sandy Nicholson. A group from Plymouth will travel to Karben in June. The exchange began in 2008, but had been on hiatus since 2019 due to the Covid pandemic.
