Community Ed & Rec offers fun for families

Plymouth School District Community Education & Recreation is offering a variety of activities for children and families this autumn!
Hall Walking
Community members can walk the PHS hallways during designated times.
Details: 3-8pm (3-6pm Fridays) school days Sept. 8-May 21 (available longer this year!)
Fee: Free!
Register: No pre-registration, but enter Door 18 & sign in each time at the registration table located just outside the Fitness Center
Friday Playgroup
For children of all ages with a parent or other adult. Join other families at this parent-supervised free play. A brief activity will be available.
Details: 9:30-11am 1st & 3rd Fridays Sept 19-Dec 5 at Plymouth Youth Center, 609 North St.
Fee: $12/family

Bat House Workshop - NEW
For children of all ages with a parent or other adult. Bring the family and get in the Halloween spirit for a quick discussion to learn all things bats. Then roll up your sleeves and build a bat house together to take home. All materials provided.

Intro to Wrestling - NEW!
For grades 4K-4. Step onto the mat, learn the fundamentals of wrestling, and have a blast with your friends. It's all about fun, fitness, and new skills!

Family Rock Climb & Open Gym Play
For families with children ages 5 & up. Climb the indoor vertical wall, which has 4 routes of varying difficulty. While waiting to climb, play in the gym.

Child Swim Lessons
For ages 6 & up and at least 50” tall. We follow the American Red Cross courses. Must have passed the previous level before moving to the next level.
Details: Saturdays Oct 4-Nov 22
• 9:30-10:15am: Level 1 & Level 4
• 10:15-11am: Level 2 and Level 5/6
• 11-11:45am: Levels 3

Stars of Tomorrow Boys Basketball Camp
For boys in grades 2-8. PHS coaches and players correct, teach, and help perfect the individual fundamentals of basketball. Camp consists of individual offensive and defensive techniques, as well as scrimmaging in small groups and competing in drills and contests.

Home Alone
For grades 3-6. Children who spend time home without an adult will gain a knowledge of safety concepts. They will learn to use 911, what to do if the lights go out, and how to handle small emergencies.

Middle-School Intramurals
For grades 5-6. A variety of physical activities to accommodate different levels of skill and interests. Emphasis is on the enjoyment of physical activities rather than the pressure to win, as in competitive athletics. Students will enjoy the benefits of movement, develop positive attitudes, increase self-esteem and positive social interactions, and broaden their skill, fitness & leisure choices.

Kayaking
For families with children ages 10 & up. This introductory class is for those new to this water sport.

Wizard Wand Making – NEW!
For ages 10 & up. Step into the world of magic as you get to craft your very own enchanted wand! During this mystical class, you’ll design and create a unique wand, infuse it with a touch of magic that’s all your own, and learn the secrets of wand crafting in a fun, interactive setting.

Babysitting Clinic
For grades 5-8 (ages 10 & up). Learn to be a better babysitter and earn a certificate of completion to show potential clients.

Youth Center
For grades 5-8. Located next to Riverview Middle School, the center is open after school until 5pm on regular school days with at least one adult present at all times.

Middle-School Lifting
For grades 6-8. Learn the basics of athletic-based fitness training and develop speed, explosiveness, agility, strength, & conditioning. Students who complete the class and pass the Free-Weight Safety Test can use the PHS Fitness Center independently.

Middle-School Tennis Clinic
For grades 7-8. Sharpen your tennis skills as this clinic will focus on the fundamentals — including forehand, backhand, serving, and doubles strategy — along with plenty of match play and fun.

Instant Piano for Busy People - NEW!
For ages 13+. In this online course, you will learn to play piano in the comfort of your own home using your own piano or keyboard. You will learn to use chords, plus enough secrets of the trade to give you years of musical enjoyment. Class will blend lecture/demonstration with hands-on activities. Participants will receive a recording of the class after completion, an online book, follow-up video lessons, and an optional online question-and-answer session, so they can keep improving.

Refuse To Be a Victim
For a parent with teen. This 2-night class teaches basic principles for crime prevention and personal safety.

Lifestyle & Mental Health in Youth & Teens
For parents/guardians. Join a conversation about the positive effects that exercise, supplements, and other lifestyle choices can have on ADHD, anxiety, & depression and how they can reduce reliance on pharmaceuticals.

How do I register?
- Online: If possible, please register online via MyRec, which carries no service fee and offers immediate confirmation. (You first will need to create a MyRec account, if you have not already done so; once we verify residency and approve the account, you can register for any of our offerings going forward.)
- In person: You can register in our office, where we will help set up your MyRec account and can accept cash, check, and credit cards. Park in the visitor lot in front of Plymouth High School, 125 S. Highland Ave., and enter Door 18 on the south end of the building. Our office is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays (8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays this summer).
- By mail: While MyRec registration is preferred, you still can print a registration form to mail with a check to Community Ed & Rec, 125 S. Highland Ave., Plymouth WI 53073.
