Meet the new PHS activities director & head coaches!

Posted August 11, 2025

Plymouth High School is welcoming a new activities director and a new head football coach, after the retirement of Dan Knaus. PHS also has a new head volleyball coach this fall.

Kevin Butters

Plymouth High School activities director
PHS graduate!
Previous coaching experience: 14 years of football, 13 years of track & field, 1 year of softball
Other relevant experience: Throughout my teaching career I have tried to get involved wherever I can. Outside of my coaching at Plymouth, I have spent a lot of time working with the Boys Basketball program – driving the bus and doing the books. I also like attending any event, concert, or performance I can.
Why are athletics & activities important? Being involved in athletics and activities allows students to connect with others, develop as individuals and grow into well-rounded people. By creating a positive culture, these experiences help students understand that they’re part of something greater than themselves. Whether it's sports, clubs, or the arts, every activity leaves a positive impact on the students and the community around them.
Anything else you'd like people to know: I am extremely excited for this opportunity. Extracurriculars are my passion, and I can’t wait to be part of all the amazing things happening at PHS. Go Panthers!

I currently volunteer to coach youth baseball in the summer and youth basketball in the winter.
Other relevant experience: I teach physics at PHS. I train all athletes in all sports in our strength and speed program in the winter and summer. I also advise our leadership group called Team Panthers as well as our Student-Athlete Leadership Council.
Anything else you'd like people to know: I played offensive line and linebacker for the Panthers (voted team captain by the team in 2002) and graduated from PHS in 2003. My father, Brad Vollbrecht, also coached football at Plymouth for many years.
