Community Ed & Rec offers nourishing classes this summer

Plymouth School District Community Education & Recreation is offering several nutrition and wellness classes this summer!

Canning 101 – NEW!

This family-friendly class teaches the skill of long-term food preservation through canning. Practice the basics of safe waterbath canning by crafting a jar of dilly beans. Learn safe canning methods (including pressure canning), equipment and recipe review, storage of food preserves, and some troubleshooting tips along the way. Leave with a jar of dilly beans, recipes, and resources to continue your canning journey to maximize food storage and enjoy fresh flavors year round.

Freezer Meal Workshop

Spend an hour assembling 4 freezer meals to feed 4-6 people. Includes prepped veggies, spices, herbs, bags, recipes, etc. When you’re ready to eat, add another ingredient or two and your choice of protein, heat, & serve! 
Crockpot Marinades & Meals: Costa Vida Chicken, Mississippi Pot Roast, Creamy Fiesta Ranch Chicken, Hearty Chili, and Mango Salsa Chicken

Wild Food/Wild Medicine Plant Foraging Tour

Explore the plants of summer to get a glimpse into the cycles of nature and the abundance that prevails. Learn to identify plants in various stages, regenerative harvesting practices, and how to prepare plants for food and medicine.

Details: 5:30-7:30pm Thursday July 31 at the main entrance to Nichols Creek Wildlife Area

Herbs for Women's Health – NEW!

Women have relied on herbs to promote health since ancient times. From reproductive support to menopause and beyond, herbs can help soothe and relieve common concerns from cramps to hot flashes. Class will explore herbal allies, internal and topical, that you can depend on for support. Try samples of infusions and tea, and take home a remedy made in class along with a handout with recipes.

How do I register?

  • Online: If possible, please register online via MyRec, which carries no service fee and offers immediate confirmation. (You first will need to create a MyRec account, if you have not already done so; once we verify residency and approve the account, you can register for any of our offerings going forward.)
  • In person: You can register in our office, where we will help set up your MyRec account and can accept cash, check, and credit cards. Park in the visitor lot in front of Plymouth High School, 125 S. Highland Ave., and enter Door 18 on the south end of the building. Our office is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays (9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays this summer).
  • By mail: While MyRec registration is preferred, you still can print a registration form to mail with a check to Community Ed & Rec, 125 S. Highland Ave., Plymouth WI 53073.
