Plymouth schools to say goodbye to retiring faculty & staff

The Plymouth School District is bidding farewell to a number of faculty and staff who are retiring. Together they have 263 years of service to the district!
Dan Knaus
Years with the district: 33
Current title: Plymouth School District activities director
Career: I've taught at Parnell, Fairview, and the High School. I taught physical education and adaptive phy. ed. at the elementary and high school levels.
Plans for retirement: Golf, travel, fish, spend time with my grandson

Years with the district: 32
Current title: Riverview Middle School special education aide
Jackie Murphy
Years with the district: 31
Current title: Horizon Elementary School third-grade teacher
Career: Antigo WI Grades 1-2; Minneapolis MN Nanny; St. Mary's Eden, Grades K & 2; Armstrong WI Nanny; Mulberry Bush Daycare; Plymouth School District Summer School, Multiage 2-3, Looping 2-3, Grade 3
Plans for retirement: I plan to enjoy a "no schedule" lifestyle, gardening, reading, biking, enjoying live music in various venues and volunteering at THELMA Art Center in Fond du Lac. I'm looking forward to being open to exploring new possibilities, pursuing passions, and finding fulfillment in my life's third act.

Years with the district: 25
Current title: Plymouth High School English teacher and yearbook adviser
Career: 1994-2000 Marquette Alger Intermediate School District in career and technical education and health education; 2000-25 at PHS
Plans for retirement: I will travel with my husband when he is on the road for work, and we plan on enjoying some long weekends and vacations while doing that. I look forward to hiking, gardening, volunteering, and being really active.

Current title: Plymouth High School chemistry teacher, science department leader, HOSA advisor, Academic Bowl advisor
Career: Worked at New Holstein High School from 1992-2001; taught Lab Science, Biology, Ecology, Chemistry and was the Pep Club advisor
Plans for retirement: First enjoy a summer break where I am not planning for the next school year, then come fall, I hope to find a job in the private sector using my chemistry knowledge, management skills, and problem-solving skills.

Current title: Riverview Middle School reading specialist; Youth Center coordinator
Career: The past 10 years I was the Youth Center Coordinator and Reading Specialist at Horizon, Riverview, SJB and SJL.
Prior to that I worked for Community Education for 26 years, have taught summer school for 24 years, and was the Reading Specialist in the Kohler School District for 17 years.
Plans for retirement: I plan to garden, travel, and volunteer. I will enjoy the sunny days reading, walking, fishing, and playing pickleball. I look forward to sleeping in on the cold mornings and being creative and crafty.
Donna Olig
Years with the district: 10
Current title: Horizon Elementary School building secretary
Career: 31 years as a medical social worker in the areas of nursing home, apartment management, hospital, employee assistance, and ending in home care and hospice the last 15 years before coming to the school system
Plans for retirement:
- I’m going to watch loons on the water.
- I’m going to tend my flowers, feed the birds and plant a willow tree that future generations will enjoy.
- I’m going to hang out with my brother and sister, and lifelong friends with whom I’ve never had enough time.
- I’m going to figure out how to best serve others by volunteering without the constraints of money.
- I’m going to go HOME and love my family and be there for the small things, including walking their dogs and reading books to my granddaughter under that growing willow tree.
- I’m going to continue growing older as long as I can without growing up.
