Looking back at the PHS Class of 1974

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the graduation of the Plymouth High School Class of 1974. Here is a look back at its senior year!

Homecoming

Homecoming 1973 featured:

• Hallway and window decorating
• High school open house Friday afternoon
• Homecoming Court, with a crowning ceremony Friday night in the PHS Auditorium
• Pep rally featuring cheers and skits, following by a burning of letters spelling HUSKIES outside school
• Parade through downtown Saturday morning
• Pre-game and halftime shows by the PHS Band, featuring its new color guard and the Pantherettes pom-pom squad
• Football game victory over New Holstein Saturday afternoon on the Riverview athletic field
• Dance from 8:30-11:30 p.m. Saturday in the PHS cafeteria (tickets $1.50 each)

Sports

Interscholastic sports for boys included:

• Baseball (regional champ)
• Basketball
• Cross Country
• Football
• Golf (conference champ)
• Swimming
• Tennis
• Track & Field (3 events to State)
• Wrestling

Interscholastic sports for girls included:

• Basketball (conference champ)
• Track & Field (4 events to State)
• Volleyball

Girls also could be part of the Girls Athletic Association, which offered a variety of intramural activities.

The arts

Performing opportunities included:

• Concert Band, Jazz Band
• Girls Chorus, Mixed Chorus, Swing Choir, Girls Ensemble
• One-act play “Thurber Carnival” (which advanced to State)
• Senior class play “My Sister Eileen” in November
• Christmas Band Concert in December
• Musical “No, No, Nanette” in April
• Solo & Ensemble Contest in the spring
• Spring Band & Chorus Concert in May
• Cabaret
