Community workshop, Medicare class, Free Film, field trips offered

Plymouth School District Community Education & Recreation is offering several free opportunities this autumn, plus a chance to use school woodworking equipment!

The following are held at Plymouth High School, 125 S. Highland Ave., except for the Around Our Town tours. Please register in advance anytime via the MyRec online registration system or from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays in the Community Ed & Rec office, located just inside PHS Door 18.

Woodworking

Build personal projects using tools in the PHS woods lab. New participants work closely with the instructor; experienced participants may work independently.
Instructor: Ralph Gunkel
Details: 5:30-8:30pm Tuesdays Sept. 17-Nov. 5 in PHS Room C111
Fee: $96 (seniors* $78), plus the cost of any materials used

Around Our Town tours

Community members ages 18+ are invited to join these field trips for adults!

Log Cabin Orchard

Learn how apples are grown sustainably. Enjoy some cider while learning the history of the orchard in the authentic 1800s cabin.
Details: 5:15pm Tuesday Sept. 17 (rain date Tuesday Oct. 1) at N4797 County Road E, Plymouth
Fee: Free, but you must register in advance because space is limited.

Mental Health America Lakeshore

Learn about this nonprofit mental health agency, which has served our community since 1953, that has a mission to promote overall mental health through education, support, public health reform, and advocacy with a vision to create mentally healthy communities where all individuals thrive.
Details: 5:30pm Monday Oct. 28 at 410 S. Milwaukee Street, Plymouth
Fee: Free, but you must register in advance because space is limited.

Understanding Medicare

Learn about the U.S. national health insurance program for senior citizens.
Instructor: Mary Kempf of County Division on Aging
Details: 5:30-8pm Wednesday Sept. 18 in the PHS Library
Fee: Free, but register by Sept. 15 so we know there is enough interest

Track/Hall Walking

Community members can walk the PHS hallways & indoor track during designated times on school days.
Track: 5:30-7am & 4-7pm weekdays (4-6pm Fridays) Nov 4 through March 21
Halls: 3-8pm weekdays (3-6pm Fridays) Nov 4 through April 25
Fee: Free, but enter Door 18 & sign in each time.

Free Film: “Arthur the King”

In this PG-13 movie, an adventure racer adopts a stray dog named Arthur to join him in an epic endurance race.
Details: 6pm Wednesday Nov. 13 in the PHS Auditorium
Fee: Free, but please register by Nov. 11 so we know there is enough interest
