The upcoming Opera for the Young performance of “The Magic Flute” at Plymouth Arts Center will feature some of our elementary students!
All ages are invited to step into the enchanting world of Mozart’s beloved opera and follow Prince Tamino as he embarks on a daring quest to find the heroic Princess Pamina. The Prince is aided by the whimsical birdman Papageno and a lively chorus of third- and fourth-graders from Horizon and Fairview elementary schools, under the direction of their music teacher, Jennifer Erdly.
Opera for the Young brings live, professional opera to elementary school audiences. Students appear onstage in chorus and cameo roles, performing for their peers right alongside professional artists. All productions are fully staged, sung in English, and adapted especially for kids.
This production of “The Magic Flute” offers a fresh take on Mozart’s timeless fable, promising a captivating journey filled with wonder, music, and adventure that will enchant children and parents. Transformed into whimsical space creatures, the students play Sarastro and his “Alien Council of Wisdom” in a fantastical interplanetary adaptation.
A public performance will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday May 15 at Plymouth Arts Center. Tickets are $10 for adults (plus a $1.50 fee online) and $5 for children (plus a $1.25 fee online). You are encouraged to reserve tickets early, as seating is limited to 150.
In addition, two free shows for the community and families of the performers will be offered Friday May 16: at 9:30 a.m. at Fairview and at 1:30 p.m. at Horizon. Attendees should check in at the school office (please bring a driver’s license or other government-issued identification).
