Two Riverview Middle School students recently were recognized by the American Legion Auxiliary Ladewig-Zinkgraf Unit 243 for their submissions to its annual poppy poster contest.
The contest was open to students in grades 7-8 who attend Riverview, Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Elementary School, St. John’s Lutheran School, and St. John the Baptist Catholic School.
First place was awarded to Riverview student Nicholas S. Wasilewski; his design advances to state competition. Riverview student Elizabeth Haucke took second, and Annika Graff from Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Elementary School took third. Each received a monetary prize.
The posters promote the effort by American Legion Auxiliary units to distribute poppies each year on Memorial Day and Veterans Day to honor veterans for their service.
