PHS inducts 43 into National Honor Society

The Plymouth chapter of the National Honor Society held its annual induction ceremony May 3 in the Plymouth High School Auditorium.

The chapter inducted 43 new students and re-elected 42 seniors. New members must have a 3.7 grade-point average over five semesters and complete a portfolio, which is reviewed by a faculty council. Each member is expected to do 15 hours of service a year.

During the ceremony, PHS Principal Joe Brandl outlined the four key principles of NHS – scholarship, leadership, service, and character – and later formally accepted the new inductees.

PHS Spanish teacher Rommy Herrera, chosen by NHS members as their guest speaker, shared six life lessons:

1. Don’t let fear control you.
2. Keep going. Never give up. And be thankful.
3. Take risks.
4. Take pride in everything you do.
5. Travel.
6. “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” - Maya Angelou

NHS was established in 1921 and at PHS in 1936. This year’s 87th annual ceremony was conducted by NHS officers President Molly Trepanier, Vice-President Sarah Welsch, Secretary Allison Limberg, and Treasurer Nathaniel Stucke. PHS math teacher Jack Daniels serves as NHS advisor.
