Area middle-school students are invited to join the Riverview Dance Team, which performs at home Boys Basketball games.
Participation is open to all area students in grades 6-8, including those who are homeschooled or attending parochial schools. The team is coached by Riverview teacher Courtney Greenwald.
An informational meeting for players and/or parents will begin at 3 p.m. Monday Sept. 12 in the library at Riverview Middle School, 300 Riverside Circle.
In order to participate, students must be registered by Friday Sept. 30, using the MyRec registration system. (Parents/guardians will need to create a MyRec account, if they do not already have one.) In addition, participants must have a Physical Evaluation Form signed by a doctor less than 2 years ago on file with Community Education & Recreation, which coordinates registration. The fee is $20; please contact Community Ed & Rec if financial assistance is necessary.
Skill camps will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 27 and Wednesday Sept. 28 to preview some of the skills dancers will use throughout the season and to place participants on one of two teams.
Practices will be from 3 to 4:30 p.m. beginning Monday Oct. 3 on the Riverview gym balcony, with one team practicing on Mondays and Wednesdays and the other on Tuesdays and Thursdays, plus some combined Friday practices. Participants will learn two dances – one Pom and Jazz routine and one Kick routine – to perform at Riverview Boys Basketball games from Nov. 8 to Dec. 13.
