Middle-school students invited to play sports

Posted August 8, 2022

Area students can register now to be part of 2022-23 Riverview Middle School athletics teams.

These opportunities, coordinated by Plymouth School District Community Education & Recreation, are open to all area middle-school students, including those who are homeschooled or attending parochial schools.

Practices generally are held after school at Riverview, 300 Riverside Circle. With the exception of Danceline and Golf, these are interscholastic programs, where Riverview teams travel to compete with area middle schools.

The following teams begin practice right after school starts, with registration due Friday Sept. 2:

  • Cross Country: for grades 5-8. An informational meeting for players and/or parents/guardians will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday Aug. 30 in the Riverview Cafeteria, during Riverview Sneak Peek. Practices will be from 2:45 to 4 p.m. school days beginning Wednesday Sept. 7 (note date change), mostly at Riverview. Five 4 p.m. meets are scheduled between Sept. 15 and Oct. 11.
  • Volleyball: for girls in grades 7-8. An informational meeting for players and/or parents/guardians will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 7 in the Riverview gym, followed by the first practice. Matches are scheduled for 4 p.m. various days from Sept. 13 to Oct. 17.

Registration also is open for these additional 2022-23 opportunities:

  • Danceline: for grades 6-8, offered October-December (with dance clinics in September)*
  • Boys Basketball: for boys in grades 7-8, offered November-December
  • Girls Basketball: for girls in grades 7-8, offered January-February
  • Wrestling: for grades 5-8, offered January-March
  • Golf: for grades 7-8, offered April-May
  • Tennis: for grades 7-8, offered April-May
  • Track & Field: for grades 7-8, offered April-May

*Volleyball and Danceline seasons overlap slightly, but coaches will work together so interested students can participate in both.

Students must be registered before they can participate, via the MyRec registration system. (Parents/guardians will need to create a MyRec account, if they do not already have one.) In addition, all participants must have a Physical Evaluation Form on file signed by a doctor less than 2 years ago. Fee is $20 per sport (plus a $50 greens fee for Golf).
