The Plymouth School District offers a number of options to keep students learning, exploring and moving during the summer months.

Summer School

The district prides itself on its extensive Summer School and again will offer about 75 classes for students from preschool through high school, at no charge to families.

While remedial courses are available, the vast majority are designed to keep students thinking during the summer. Enrollment is open to all area students, regardless of which district they attend during the school year.

Summer School is scheduled to run Monday through Thursday mornings from June 22 to July 23, with no classes on Fridays. Classes will meet from 8 to 11:45 a.m. at Riverview Middle School, 300 Riverside Circle, except for Early Childhood, Kindergarten Readiness, and K-1 Transition, which will meet from 8 to 11:30 a.m. at Horizon Elementary School, 411 S. Highland Ave.

Fantastic Fridays

Community Education & Recreation will provide fun and adventure for students entering kindergarten through eighth grade most Fridays during the Summer School weeks.

Fantastic Friday events will be offered June 26 and July 10, 17 and 24. Organized activities generally run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., but care is available from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at no additional charge.

This sample of school, taught by child-care staff with years of experience, coincides with Plymouth Summer School. Squiggles & Wiggles will meet from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays at Horizon Elementary School, 411 S. Highland Ave.

Youngsters can attend either or both of a pair of two-week sessions. The first session will be June 22 to July 2 and the second will be July 13 to 23.

Summer Child Care

Community Education & Recreation offers all-day care for children from age 6 weeks old through those entering fifth grade in the fall.

Three age-appropriate programs are available:

  • Mulberry Bush: For children 6 weeks to 4 years old. Located at Horizon Elementary School.
  • Berry Branch: For children who will be entering kindergarten or first grade in the fall. Located at Horizon during Summer School and otherwise at Parkview.
  • Extra Mile: For children who will be entering second through fifth grades in the fall. Located at Riverview Middle School all summer.

Care is available from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays at Mulberry Bush. The other programs are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., except no care is available when Summer School is in session so that children may attend that program. Fees vary based on the age of the child and the number of hours of care needed.

Safety Town will run from 9 to 11:30 a.m. weekdays from July 27 to Aug. 5 at the Plymouth Youth Center, 609 North St.
