Middle-school boys basketball begins soon

Posted October 7, 2019

Plymouth-area boys in grades seven and eight are encouraged to participate in extracurricular basketball.

This is an interscholastic program, where Riverview Middle School teams travel to compete with area schools. Middle-school sports, which are open to all area students whether they attend public or parochial school or are homeschooled, are coordinated by Plymouth School District Community Education & Recreation.

A brief initial meeting will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday Oct. 15 in the gym at Riverview Middle School, 300 Riverside Circle. Parents do not need to attend, but may if they wish.

The team is coached by Riverview teachers Brad Mey and Butch Cain. Registration forms are available in the Riverview and Community Ed & Rec offices as well as online, and can be returned to either office or mailed to Community Ed & Rec, 125 Highland Ave., Plymouth WI 53073. The cost is $20 per sport.

Please note that all student athletes need to have a doctor complete a physical form every two years. In addition, a signed concussion form must be turned in before a student can practice, and all forms must be in no later than Nov. 4 in order for a student to participate in the first game.

Practices will be after school beginning Wednesday Oct. 23. The season consists of 10 conference games on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Nov. 7 and ending Dec. 17. Each grade level has an A and B team, which differ by skill level; B games begin at 4 p.m. and A games at 5 p.m.

The Plymouth School District places a high value on extracurriculars – one of its four Pillars of Excellence – because of the strong correlation between them and academic performance. Participants learn valuable skills, excel in the classroom, and have lots of fun.
