Posted October 22, 2018

The Plymouth School District Board of Education met at 7 p.m. Oct. 16, 2018 in the Plymouth High School Amphitheatre.

The board learned of the following support staff changes:

  • Kay Magnus, educational assistant at Plymouth High School, has submitted her resignation.
  • Margie Hoban, educational assistant at Fairview Elementary School, has submitted her resignation.
  • Rose Lensmire has been hired as a server/cook at Fairview Elementary School.
  • Shannon Mendenhall has been hired as a server/cook at Horizon Elementary School.
  • Holly Robinson has been hired as a server/cook at Parkview Elementary School.

Financial matters

The board approved the 2018-19 operating budget and certified a tax levy of $12,167,983.50, up 7.65 percent from last year, due largely to the debt service associated with the facility upgrades approved as part of the April 3 referendum.

The mill rate will increase from $8.13 to $8.32 per $1,000 of equalized valuation. This is down considerably from the $8.93 anticipated at the annual meeting last month.

To cover expenses for a few weeks until state aids are received, the board also approved a line of credit of up to $2 million from Bank First National.

Other business

In other matters, the board:

  • Accepted a bid from C & S Construction to provide snow plowing services for the 2018-19 school year.
  • Approved a travel request from PHS business teacher Todd Willams to take students to Chicago from Nov. 2 to 3 for the FBLA National Fall Leadership Conference.
