Plymouth-area girls in grades seven and eight are invited to participate in extracurricular volleyball, and boys and girls in grades five through eight are invited to run cross country this fall.
Practices are held after school at Riverview Middle School, 300 Riverside Circle. The cost of each sport is $20, but those who register in person at the Riverview Sneak Peek from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29 pay only $60 for all 2018-19 sports and the Youth Center.
Middle-school athletics, which are open to all area students whether they attend public or parochial school or are homeschooled, are coordinated by Plymouth School District Community Education & Recreation. This is an interscholastic program, where Riverview teams travel to compete with area middle schools.
Volleyball will hold an informational meeting at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5 in the Riverview gym. Practices will begin Thursday, Sept. 6. Games are on Mondays and Thursdays from mid-September through mid-October. The seventh-grade team is coached by Sarah Michlig and Robin Hoopman, and the eighth-grade team by Gina Krueger and Kelly Ochalek.
Cross country also will hold an informational meeting at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5 in the Riverview cafeteria. Practices will begin Thursday, Sept. 6. The team will participate in six meets mostly on Tuesdays and Thursdays between mid-September and early October. Coaches are Jessica Barrington, Taylor Lembrich and Kamie Gritt.Learn more:
