August 2018 School Board meeting summary

The Plymouth School District Board of Education met at 5:30 p.m. August 21, 2018 in the Plymouth High School Amphitheatre.

 

Pillars of Excellence

Dan Mella, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, reported on the progress of the strategic plan in support of the Academic Pillar of Excellence. 

Jon Miller, business manager, reported on the progress of the strategic plan in support of the Financial Pillar of Excellence. 

 

Personnel

The board accepted the resignation request of Sarah Paff, educational specialist at Riverview Middle School, effective at the end of the 2017-18 school year. She served the Plymouth School District for four years.

The board approved 2018-19 teaching contracts with:

  • Marcus McCauley to be an educational specialist at Plymouth High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Lakeland University. This will be his first year of teaching.
  • Denise Roth to be a reading teacher at Horizon Elementary School. She received her bachelor’s degree from UW-Stevens Point and a master’s degree from Cardinal Stritch University. She has eight years of teaching experience in the Kohler School District, and has been an educational aide for the Plymouth School District, and has worked in various positions for Community Education & Recreation.
  • Kurt Schulz to be an alternative education teacher at Plymouth High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from UW-Milwaukee and a master’s degree from Viterbo University. He has 13 years of teaching experience in the Wauwatosa School District.

The board also learned of the following support staff changes:

  • Janet Dzwonkowski has been hired as a cook/server at Horizon Elementary School.
  • Tricia Hynek, cook/server, has submitted her resignation. She served the district for one year.
  • Katie Jonson, cook/server, has submitted her resignation. She served the district for one year.
  • Adrienne Barrett has been hired as a 4K educational assistant at Fairview Elementary School.
  • Sue Challet has been hired as an educational assistant at Fairview Elementary School.
  • Melissa Hill has been hired as an educational assistant at Fairview Elementary School.
  • Lori Kaesermann has been hired as a school nurse at Riverview Middle School.
  • Amy Kwekkeboom has been hired as a cook/server at Fairview Elementary School.
  • Sompaktra Kalste has been hired as a cook/server at Plymouth High School.
  • Laura Moseley has been hired as an educational assistant at Fairview Elementary School.
  • Anne Secord has been hired as an educational assistant at Fairview Elementary School.

 

Donations

The board gratefully accepted donations of:

  • $867.67 from Fairview Elementary School PTO for student transportation and admission to the Milwaukee Public Museum.
  • $562.22 from Parkview Elementary School PTK for student transportation to Christopher Gardens, Bookworm Gardens and the Nuclear Power Plant.
  • $350 from Curt Joa for the Machine Tool and Die Program.

 

Other business

In other matters, the board:

  • Accepted a bread bid from Alpha Bakery and a bid from HPS to provide third-party purchasing for the 2018-19 school year.
  • Adopted the 2018-19 Elementary School Student and Parent Handbook with minor revisions.
  • Approved the 2018-19 budget to be officially published for the Annual Meeting.
