Dustin Krupp, Samuel Hafemann, Charlie Wichert and Alex Phlan form the PHS Burger Boyz student chef team

A team from Plymouth High School is one of five state finalists competing at the Whipping Up Wellness: Wisconsin Student Chef Competition set for May 17 in Madison.
The Burger Boyz team of Charlie Wichert, Samuel Hafemann, Alex Phlan and Dustin Krupp is advised by PHS culinary arts and food science teacher Gale Litt. Working under time pressure, they will prepare six to eight servings of the recipe they created, BBQ Florentine Turkey Burger.
A panel of judges will evaluate the dish on taste, appearance/presentation, originality, and student appeal. As part of the competition, students also have to give a presentation about their recipe, scale it to 48 servings for use in food service, and conduct a taste test involving other students.
Recipes in the competition should be nutritious and easily incorporated into a school food service program, as well as able to be served at home. Qualifying entries will become part of the sixth annual student chef cookbook, published by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
PHS has been a finalist every year of the competition, created by the DPI in 2013 to help create school menu items that students find acceptable.
