The Plymouth High School team took second in the recent East Central Conference Academic Bowl competition.

The eight ECC schools participate in the annual competition, which began in 2014-15 when the WIAA conferences were restructured. Each 20-member team is challenged to stretch their knowledge in the topics of science, math, English, history and current events — in a written test and a group question-and-answer round.

This year’s event was held March 6 at Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School. PHS earned 932 points and took second place, its best finish in the three years of the competition.

The Panthers also earned nine individual medals, the most ever by PHS students. Winning medals were:

  • Junior Elsa Blad: First in U.S. History
  • Junior Christian Pieper: First in Chemistry (his third first-place medal in Science)
  • Sophomore Dallas Kreisa: First in Geometry
  • Sophomore Grace Wynveen: Second in Short Stories and Poetry
  • Senior Katy Coly: Second in World History
  • Senior Ellie Welsch: Third in Brit Lit and Shakespeare
  • Freshman Olivia Straub: Third in Grammar and Spelling
  • Sophomore Kathrine Brinkman: Third in U.S. Government
  • Junior Mike Troka: Third in Advanced Math

Others on the PHS team were: Izzy Arbuckle, Peyton DeZwarte, Avi Charlton-Dietch, Kyle Kraus, Amanda Krueger, Maggie Munson, Alex Oty, Abbie Palechek, Drew Schmidt, Adam Smith, and Sydney Tackes. Alternates were Maggie Staehling, Mason Dale, Caitlyn McEvoy, Max Hassel and Austin Zeeveld.
