Two Plymouth High School students received the third-place trophy and gold medals at the recent Fox Valley Technical College Culinary Throwdown.
In the competition, held Dec. 1 at FVTC, teams of students were given two tables, two gas burners, and one hour to prepare a plate which included a poultry entrée, a starch, a vegetable, and a sauce. They had to bring all their own equipment and ingredients, and also had to calculate costing of their menu and nutrition analysis.
PHS teammates Alex Kelly and Halie Wagner impressed judges with their Parmesan Crusted Chicken Thigh with Savory Herb Cream Sauce, Crispy Panko Potato Cake, and Red Cabbage Agro dolce with Dried Door County Cherries.
The competition is open to advanced culinary students in the nationally recognized ProStart program that is sponsored by the National Restaurant Association. This competition gives students the opportunity to hone their skills before going to the State ProStart competition in Milwaukee in March.
