Sixth grade studies alternative energy at Camp Anokijig

Posted November 20, 2017

Sixth-graders at Riverview Middle School spent an enriching day at Camp Anokijig learning about alternative energy.

Students in classes taught by Rita Knoener, Brad Mey and Sandy Olig visited the camp Sept. 27, and those in classes taught by Tyler Gruett, Pam Holzhaeuser and Taylor Lembrich went Sept. 28.

All students rotated between three 90-minute, hands-on sessions:

  • Traveling around Little Elkhart Lake on the Voyager Canoe
  • Breeze to Build session, in which they designed, built and tested wind turbines
  • Catchin' Rays Session, in which they designed, built and tested a solar energy heater

The interactive field trip was possible thanks to a grant from Camp Anokijig.
