Plymouth High School senior Gwendolyn Nytes has been selected as a 2017 Herb Kohl Excellence Scholarship recipient.
She was chosen to receive the award based on her exceptional scholarship, leadership, citizenship, and school and community involvement, according to the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation.
Gwen was recognized along with other Kohl award winners during the Kohl Achievement Awards luncheon April 22 in Green Bay, which she attended along with her parents, Samuel and Kristin Nytes, and PHS Associate Principal Andy Novak.
The value of the award initially was $5,000, but in a surprise announcement at the luncheon Mr. Kohl revealed he had decided to double the scholarship amount to $10,000 per scholar.
Gwen, also a National Merit Commended Student, is president of the PHS National Honor Society chapter, and was on the girls swimming & diving and the track & field teams for all four years of high school. She plans to study biology on a pre-med track at UW-Madison beginning this fall.
The Herb Kohl Educational Foundation has been recognizing educational excellence since 1990 by annually awarding scholarships to 200 graduating high school seniors throughout Wisconsin.
