PHS student receives Wisconsin Sports Award

Posted May 1, 2017

Plymouth High School senior Alex Shutter has been awarded a Wisconsin Sports Award Scholarship by Cousins Subs.

The surprise announcement was made April 21, after his parents, grandparents, coaches, administrators and Cousins representatives gathered in the Board Room at the school.

As one of four statewide finalists chosen from 347 applicants, Alex will receive a scholarship worth either $7,500 or $2,500 and will attend a VIP event on May 11.

Cousins Subs and its Make It Better Foundation chose Alex for the award because of his exceptional academic acumen, volunteer work and achievements in four WIAA-sanctioned sports – basketball, football, golf and baseball.

Alex was elected to the golf academic all-state team and was named captain of the varsity basketball team. He is taking many cum laude-level courses, and is a member of the National and Spanish honor societies. He is a founding member of Team Panther, a member of Peers for Peers, and a writer for Hi-Lights. Outside of school, he is a religious education teacher, a youth basketball camp coach, and a swimming instructor for children with special needs.

Alex plans to study sports and exercise science at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse beginning this fall.
