Registration is now open for the 2017 Plymouth School District Summer School program, which offers about 75 free classes for students in kindergarten through high school.
Enrollment is open to all students, regardless of which district they attend during the school year. Again this year, there are no fees for Summer School.
While remedial courses are available, the vast majority are designed to keep students thinking and exploring during the summer. New this year is Drums Alive, a 45-minute class for grades 3-5. This class will combine movement with the powerful beat and rhythms of drumming to provide an amazing brain and body workout.
Summer School will run for five weeks June 19 to July 21, with no classes July 3 or 4. Most classes will meet from 8 to 11:45 a.m. weekdays at Plymouth High School, 125 Highland Ave., with early childhood classes at neighboring Horizon Elementary School, 411 S. Highland Ave.
Registration will be handled online via Skyward Family Access. Those without access to the Internet can register at any Plymouth school during regular school hours. Parents are encouraged to register as soon as possible because many classes do fill up, and those with insufficient enrollment may be cancelled.
Mark your calendar: Parents and students are invited to Summer School open houses, to walk their schedules and find their classes, from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, or 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 15 at PHS only.
Community Education and Recreation again will offer Squiggles & Wiggles Preschool during Summer School, for potty-trained children ages 3 and 4 (must be 3 by June 1).
Squiggles & Wiggles will run from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays. If needed, additional child care is available before and after preschool through Mulberry Bush.
New this year, youngsters can attend either or both of two, two-week sessions. The first session will be June 19 to June 29, with a fee of $90 until June 9; the second session will be July 10 to 20, with a fee of $90 until June 30. Or sign up for both sessions by June 9 at a discounted rate of $160. Fees, which include all supplies and snacks, increase $10 after the deadlines.
