Riverview sends 7 to Youth Honors Band

Posted January 23, 2017

Seven students from Riverview Middle School participated in the recent Wisconsin Youth Band Directors Association Youth Honors Band.

They were among about 90 students participating in the annual honors band offered to WYBDA-member directors and their students. This year’s event was held Jan. 14 in Pewaukee.

The ensemble is a full concert band that consists of director-nominated student musicians from throughout Wisconsin.  The students practiced the challenging music ahead of time with their directors, then came together for a day full of rehearsals that began at 8 a.m. and ended with a performance at 4 p.m.

“The concert was put together in just a few hours, and these students worked hard to put on a stellar performance,” said Riverview band director Sarah Reabe. “A big congratulations on their achievement!”

The second half of the concert featured the Hartland Community Band, showing the students that they do not have to put away their instruments after high school and college, Mrs. Reabe said. For the finale, both bands performed "On Wisconsin" together on stage.

Participating from Riverview were eighth-graders:

  • Alia Loehr on clarinet
  • Elissa Spatt on clarinet
  • Zoe Zwick on clarinet
  • Carley Reil on clarinet
  • AJ Klug on trumpet
  • Logan Kopping on euphonium
  • Ansel Olsen on tuba
