Meteorologist visits Parkview

Posted January 2, 2017

Parkview Elementary School recently enjoyed a visit from Jesse Ritka, a meteorologist with TMJ4-Milwaukee.

The hour-long presentation Dec. 14 was sponsored by Parents and Teachers for Our Kids (PTK), Parkview’s parent-teacher organization.

Ms. Ritka talked with students from grades one through four about:

  • What weather is and why it matters
  • How weather is forecast, including tools used in forecasting
  • Animal forecasters
  • Clouds, hail, storms and tornadoes
  • How TV meteorologists share their forecasts, including use of a green screen

She also described various meteorology careers, noting that she has always been fascinated by weather, and encouraged students to “Find what you enjoy and find a way to make a living at it.”
