Plymouth schools honor veterans

Plymouth schools marked Veterans Day with moving programs.

Plymouth High School

The Plymouth High School program Nov. 11 featured a color guard from VFW Post 5612 and honored local Vietnam veterans. Students in the Advanced Speech class taught by Janet Newton narrated a slide show. The PHS Band performed “Black Horse Troop” by John Philip Sousa, the “Star Spangled Banner” and the “Navy Hymn”; and the PHS Choir sang “In Flander’s Fields.” VFW Post 5612 presented a rifle salute followed by “Echo Taps” by PHS students Jack Benedict and Joey Sebranek.

Fairview Elementary School

The Fairview Elementary School program on Nov. 10 featured an informational presentation by a group of fourth-grade student council members. American Legion Post 243 provided the color guard. Students then went outside to observe the rifle salute by Post 243 and the playing of Taps.

 

Parkview Veterans Day

Parkview Elementary School

The Parkview Elementary School program on Nov. 11 featured an informational presentation by a group of fourth-grade students. American Legion Post 243 provided the color guard. Third- and fourth-grade students led the National Anthem. First- and second-graders sang a Thank You Veterans song led by music teacher Jenna Pavlat. Students then went outside to observe the rifle salute by Post 243 and the playing of Taps.

  • Todd Hunt, Riverview principal: Army 1991-1995, Reserve 1995-1999
  • Josh Batzner, Riverview teacher: Army Reserve 1997-2002
  • Jake Sherman, PHS teacher: National Guard 2001-09, deployed to Iraq 2005-06
